Self-Clinching Unthreaded Thru-Hole Standoffs - Series CFSO, CFSOS, CFSOA
Self clinching Thru-Hole standoffs provide a solution where design engineers need to space panels and components in their metal enclosures. The standoffs are available in steel, stainless steel, and aluminum depending on the needs of the engineer. The standoffs are available in thru-hole unthreaded in both inch and metric sizes. The self clinching standoffs provide a low cost of installation and provide a means to stack components in sheets as thin as .040” thick.
Self-Clinching Thru-Hole Unthreaded Standoffs Installation
For the self clinching standoffs to be installed properly, the fasteners must be sufficiently harder than the panels into which they will be installed. The steel standoffs can be installed into steel or aluminum panels with a maximum hardness of HRB 80. The stainless steel standoffs can be installed into steel or aluminum panels with a maximum hardness of HRB 70 or less and the aluminum standoffs can be installed into panels with a maximum hardness of HRB 50.The self clinching standoffs are to be installed into ductile material which allows for the metal into which the fastener is installed, to flow into the clinch profile of the standoff, and can be used as a permanently positioned spacer. The unthreaded fastener allows other screws or wires to be passed through the unthreaded inside of the standoff. Each self clinching standoff is installed into the proper size hole in the mating panel and is then pressed into place using a squeezing force. The recommended hole sizes and minimum sheet thicknesses for each fastener is available in our catalog at www.captive-fastener.com. The standoff eliminates the possibility of loose hardware in the assembly, which is a very important feature for design engineers, particularly in electronic enclosures and cabinetry. When properly installed the self clinching standoffs provide excellent push out values that meet or exceed the industry standards. The standoffs design allows the fastener to retain its dimensional integrity during the clinch process. The clinch fasteners, unlike a swage fastener or rivet, do not deform around the panel but the material in the panel flows around the clinch profile of the fastener. The self clinching standoffs are REACH and RoHS compliant. If 2D or 3D prints are required they can be downloaded from our within our product pages on the website.
