Captive Fastener Brand of Self Clinching Collar Base Panel fasteners provide a solution where design engineers want a spring loaded panel fastener assembly to be used in thin panels so that they are easily assembled, and removable in the assembly. The Captive Fastener self clinching panel fasteners are often used in access panels for electronic enclosures and in equipment consoles. The Collar Base panel fasteners have a Phillips Drive head with a knurled knob that allows tool or finger installation and removal. The PSK and PSS panel fasteners base are available in steel with a bright nickel finish over a copper flash base, the knob is aluminum and the screw is stainless steel. The self clinching panel fasteners offer a low cost of installation and provide a strong reusable thread in sheets as thin as .036” / .92 mm thick. For the self clinching collar base spring loaded panel fasteners to be installed properly, the fasteners must be sufficiently harder than the panels into which they will be installed. The panel fasteners can be installed into steel or aluminum panels with a maximum hardness of HRB 80. The collar base provides a mechanical stop which aids the installation process.

Base Collar Panel Fastener Installation
The PSK (knurled knob) and the PSS (smooth knob) Series of panel fasteners are to be installed into ductile material which allows for the metal into which the fastener is installed, to flow into the clinch profile of the standoff, and provide a permanent reusable thread in the assembly. Since the panel fasteners are captivated in the assembly there is no worry of losing the screws during servicing in the field. Each self clinching panel fastener is installed into the proper size hole in the mating panel and is then pressed into place using a squeezing force. The PSK and PSS Series of collar base panel fasteners eliminate the possibility of loose hardware in the assembly which is a very important feature for design engineers particularly in electronic enclosures and cabinetry. The PSK and PSS Series of panel fastener’s design allows the fastener to retain its dimensional integrity during the clinch process. The clinch fasteners, unlike a swage fastener or rivet, do not deform around the panel but the material in the panel flows around the clinch profile of the fastener.
